A local MP hosted a special gala dinner, raising over £2,000 for the Anglesey Agricultural Society.

Virginia Crosbie, MP for Ynys Môn, organized the event which was attended by the Australian High Commissioner.

The dinner included a raffle and auction, with all proceeds going to the Anglesey Agricultural Society.

His Excellency, the Honorable George Brandis QC, has been invited to Anglesey following the signing of a Free Trade Agreement between Australia and the UK.

The money will be used to host the Anglesey Agricultural Society show.

At the show, people will be able to see animals, show off bragging rights, and more.

There will also be an exhibition pavilion, equestrian events and craft exhibitors.

Virginia said: “It was a brilliant dinner and a brilliant showcase for Anglesey.

“I was proud to host him and to have such a prestigious and wonderful diplomat as a guest of honour.

“I think the dinner and Mr. Brandis coming to our island really put us on the map, but more importantly, that dinner raised a big buck for the show.

“It’s the biggest event on the island and it hasn’t happened because of the pandemic for two years.

“This money will help her get organized and get back on track and I’m really looking forward to going on August 9th and 10th like many islanders.”

Mr Brandis – Australia’s top diplomat in the UK – gave a speech and said his day in Anglesey had been the best he had ever had in Wales.

The dinner was a celebration of the UK’s commercial and historic links with Australia.

He highlighted the best produce from Wales, including Conwy mussels, Anglesey lamb and Welsh cheeses.
