Insufficient transport infrastructure for the export of agricultural products
TEHRAN – The deputy chairman of the Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (ICCIMA) Transport Committee said that there was still no large transport company capable of support the export of agricultural products in accordance with the comprehensive annual plan.

According to him, despite the existence of transport companies in the country, the appropriate infrastructure has not been formed and the concept of logistics is still not implemented properly in these companies. Therefore, the export of various agricultural products is not done in an organized and structured way.
“Perhaps it can be explained that we do not have a large transport company capable of supporting the export of agricultural products according to the full annual plan, and most companies enter on a seasonal basis,” he said. he declares.
President Hassan Rouhani on Thursday inaugurated the first phase of Iran’s largest agricultural export terminal, built with an investment of 7.2 trillion rials (about $ 171 million) in northern Mazandaran province by videoconference.
Commissioned as part of the 51st series of inauguration ceremonies for the current Iranian calendar year (started March 20, 2020), the terminal covers 31,000 hectares of land in the town of Jouybar.
Marketing, exporting products, establishing and introducing Iranian brands to world markets, reforming the distribution system and regulating the agricultural products market are among the main objectives of the mentioned export terminal.
The value of Iran’s agricultural exports increased 8.4% in the first ten months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 20, 2020 – January 19, 2021), compared to the same period the last year, according to an official. with the Customs Administration of the Islamic Republic of Iran (IRICA).
Mehrdad Jamal Orounaqi, deputy director of technical and customs affairs at IRICA, estimated the value of exported products at $ 4.9 billion during the ten-month period of the current year.
The official said the weight of agricultural products exported during the mentioned period increased 25.9% to 7.085 million tonnes.
He said Iran exported 5.6 million tonnes of agricultural products worth $ 4.5 billion in the first ten months of the previous year.
Details of agricultural exports during the period under review show that 2.4 million tonnes worth more than $ 2.1 billion are allocated to the top 10 agricultural products, of which pistachio comes first in terms of value.
Of this figure, the share of fresh or dried peel pistachios is 147,000 tonnes worth over $ 920 million, and the export of fresh or dried pistachio kernels is around 15,000 tonnes. worth over $ 170 million.
According to Orounaqi, eight countries were the export destinations of the top 10 exported products, showing that there is a wider distribution than before in the export of these items between countries.
