Pembrokeshire Agricultural Society launches search for ambassador

The Pembrokeshire Agricultural Society is seeking to appoint an Ambassador for 2023 to help office holders promote and achieve the aims of the society.

This volunteer role will follow 2022 Ambassador Ms. Carys Phillips at this year’s County Show and other society events.

They will also play an important role in promoting the work of society, the agricultural industry and rural life in Pembrokeshire.

Anyone between the ages of 18 and 30 and residing in Pembrokeshire can apply for the position. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview on Tuesday, August 16 at the County Show office.

The successful candidate will receive a stipend of £200 and membership in the society for three years.

Mansel Raymond, President of the Pembrokeshire Agricultural Society, said: “The role of ambassador is important.

“In order to fulfill the role successfully, the candidate must have excellent communication skills and an enthusiasm to perform the required tasks.”

Carys Phillips was announced as an ambassador at last year’s County Show. Carys grew up on a dairy farm in Llys-y-Fran and now lives on a beef and sheep farm with her husband in Freshwater East.

Carys is a primary teacher at Ysgol Glannau Gwaun in Fishguard where she teaches Years 5 and 6 in the Welsh Stream.

A passionate member of the Llys-y-Fran YFC for over 17 years, Carys served as club president for two years during the pandemic. She is the County Vice-Chairman of Pembrokeshire YFC and also the Rally Queen.

She has fond memories of attending the County Show every day for as long as she can remember.

Carys said: “Coming from a dairy farm, we never went on a family vacation, but the County Show was our vacation destination. Having had many friends who got the role of ambassador in the past, it was a good time to go out there and give as much as I can to society.
