The Royal Welsh Agricultural Society appoints its first female council chair
Former Vice-Chair Ms Nicola Davies has been appointed as the new Chair of the Board following David Lewis’s decision to retire after more than 40 years of service to the company.
Ms Davies, from Ceredigion, exhibited Welsh Cobs at the Royal Welsh Show for many years and first joined the Ceredigion Advisory Board in 1996.
With her enthusiasm for the industry, she has previously taken on various roles including Chief Announcer and Commentator, Steward within the Sponsorship and Hospitality Sections.
John T Davies, Chairman of the Board said; “Nicola Davies is a natural choice to become Chairman of the Board of RWAS.
“She grew up in the show rings of Wales and gave a lifetime of distinguished service and support to RWAS, as a successful Welsh Cob exhibitor, steward, ambassador, senior commentator and vice-president advice. Nicola is a capable and imposing figure who will no doubt be an excellent ambassador for the company.
The task of seeking candidates for the vice-chairmanship of the council will now begin and a meeting of the council will take place towards the end of January.
It comes at a time of more change within the company as chief executive Steve Hughson announced his retirement after the 2022 Royal Welsh Show.
Mr Davies said: ”The greatest investment any entertainment company can make is to appoint an industrious and committed managing director, which we did ten years ago. At that time, Steve indicated that he would dedicate ten years of his life to leading the Society and he did so with distinction.
“As Steve steps down from his role after the 2022 show, we will have the opportunity to reflect on a very successful tenure of growth and stability. Steve has definitely put the company on solid footing in a time of unprecedented challenges. The company owes a lot to Steve, it was a pleasure to work with him”.
The company also hopes to appoint a new chief executive before the summer show in order to have a handover period before the events. The role will be announced in the coming weeks.
